On Saturday evening, May 6, the Croton Chorale will explore the many musical interpretations of Alleluia! This sublimely simple one-word text of joy and praise can be heard in the program echoing throughout some 600 years of musical history.

“The range of musical expressions built on this astoundingly simple text turns out to be extraordinary,” said the Chorale’s conductor, Bob Collins. “We will present compositions built upon this single word – Alleluia – from Palestrina and Tallis in the early 1500s, through the Baroque masters Buxtehude and his pupil J.S. Bach, through Handel, Mozart and Beethoven, and up through 19 th century hymn writers and contemporary masters.”

The concert will be hosted by Asbury United Methodist Church at 17 Old Post Road South, Croton-on-Hudson at 8:00 P.M. Suggested donations, which benefit the Croton Caring Committee, are $20, $10 for seniors or students, with children under 12 welcomed free. The concert will be livestreamed on Zoom at 9202 633 6984 and will conclude the group’s 23rd season.

Croton Chorale is a community choir and orchestra founded in the year 2000 to bring Handel’s Messiah to the village of Croton at Christmas time. New members who delight in making magnificent music are always welcome. The 30-voice chorus, conducted by Collins, has a tradition of presenting its concerts as benefits for local non-profit organizations.
